Contributing to the group
Hey I was wanting to make a healer charcter that can really help out the group, but my studies have shown that clothies die real fast in PVP. Do we have any heal focused shamans in the clan? Do you guys do battlegrounds often? I might make a shammie instead of a priest as they are much more likely to survive long enough to get a few more heals out.

Plenty to discuss in this topic. I'll start with the easy ones.
Tatariushi is a heal-spec shammy. In higher end raid content, I almost never do DPS. In the top-end stuff (MC) I absolutely never DPS.
Shadow-spec priests are widely considered to be a very successful PVP class (melted faces, anyone?) largely because they're so survivable. That shield is no joke, and allows you to keep yourself healed. Shadow spec'd, I suspect you put out more dps than a Pally.
Perhaps it's just our gentle boevine nature, but in spite of our reputation for being overpowered, you'll find very few Shaman in the upper eschelons of the PVP rankings. That said, I know I've pissed off one or two alliance in BGs. "Just fucking DIE dammit!" I can imagine the keyboard pounding even now. :) Oh well, nothing a stunlock rogue can't solve. *grumble*
As a shadow priest you will melt faces in PvP.
Seriously though - playing as Calhoun, I can just barely beat Jekyll in a duel if I blow every cooldown (including the cooldown that resets most of my other cooldowns). He's not even shadow specced, and he doesn't pvp with that character.
Hunters, on the other hand, tear up most casters since the last patch.
If you do decide to roll a shaman, play an orc - they have a pretty substantial resistance to stuns, which will let you shrug off a good number of enemy rogue assaults. I'd suggest looking at the pvp forums - whatever players are bitching the most about, do. You'll be happier for it.
I guess I need to decide if I want to heal in a battleground or heal in a instance. I'll have to get to level 60 to make that decision, so I guess the answer is: "Play more nOOb."
"As a contribution to our group, more tanks and healers are always nice IMO. It allows maraco, thumb, and myself the option to play our alts in instances. =) We also need AOEers."
Thanks, good to know. I'll work on my tank or maybe make a mage. Instances are fun, with their limited confines and tight groups, they remind me of side scroller games. :)
Paladins are the only class that we would reject outright; luckily, we don't have to worry about grouping with them.
Druids can also make really excellent healers. On the other hand, they are reportedly the slowest of all classes to level. On the third hand, they are the class to be in CTF.
secret note to self, great website for warriors and healers: http://www.thesteelwarrior.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12697
