Memoirs of a 中国人
So I'm gonna go see the movie tonight, but it really bugs me that the people playing Japaneese people look so Chineese, anyone else notice that? Maybe as I watch it I'll get immersed and forget about it because I'm sure they are exellent actors; but when I see those perviews of Chineese people dressing like Japaneese it just looks wierd. Comments?

Priest epic weapon ... and quests
I also got my eye off of domo's chest. http://www.thotbott.com/?i=37579
Its the first step of 3 for my priest epic weapon.
http://www.thotbott.com/?i=37916
http://www.thotbott.com/?i=38169
Its the same staff, it calls the other on a 30 min cool down. both can be buffed sepratily, like one +22 int other +30 spell damage or whatever.
Jekyll has the eye and the eye of shadows. http://www.thotbott.com/?i=37476
350G in ah.... or 0.3% drop rate off some elite guys in Winterveil also drop off of world raid boss. I need to look into it more.
But even thought these quests are solo (meaning if your helped you will fail instantly) there are ways to help. pots.. possibly even totems if done in the right possition.
I may respec for the purpose of this quest.
2 things, I'd like help w/, mats possibly totems for quest attempt, and to farm... *yuck* but maybe i can get people who arn't 60 yet to help so atleast we can get exp out of it for the eye of shadow. (order not spacific).

Fabled Drops Rag!
Grats Mar and Alk, who melted face today (which is really quite impressive considering Rag is already on fire.) We killed Domo and Rag both on first attempt, and it was quite the wtfbbqpwnage.

Voice communication?
So I'm getting more into teh Battlegrounds and it's got me wondering, do any of you guys use voice communication? If so, what software? If not, should we? I guess it doesn't matter as much when we do not have max size BG groups but anyway I'm curious.
Growing Frustration
Okay this is bit more from my lack of accully trying, but i've been burned a few time organizing anything other than ToC groups... Well.
I guess I'll ask you for ya'lls help. I need 1 more Skin of shadows then an easy trip to DM Liabrary. For my +8 spell/healing head/pant enchant which, mixed with friendly rep of ZG (one more run for me will grind it) a priest voodoo doll, and one Hakkari Tabard (purple drop) Will get me a much nicer pant/head enchant.
Enchant does somehting like this
+42 to healing
+10 stm
Mana over time
sorry, at work can't link accully enchant.
But I need to get through Sholo... So, My plan is to run it in 30 min or less
Here is how I'd like to do it.
Blaze though killing only needed crap (over 5 man is good, this way people like Ivers can join.. even sherie should come.)
Skip unneeded bosses.
However, I do have blood of innocence if we want to do that one quest.
Kill the one guy in the basement (place w/ bones though the welps)
Get key
Fight back to door (open, this is un pickable)
skip though the daisies, and fight the bottem left room for skin
(yay done)
should take a group over 5 less than 35 min.
If I'm the only healer groovie...
If you guys wana take more time and kill everything, okay.
How about thursday night (tonight)?
Screw wife faction unless they come.

Scheduled Server Outage
Some of you may have noticed this site was down for a short time yesterday. We had an environmental power outage. Sorry about the trouble.
Now for the scheduled downtime. Power is being shut off to the entire facility here for two days on the 22nd and 23rd of this month. The purpose is to connect a new building to the main power feed, and to take advantage of the downtime to do maintenance on that feed. Unless I feel like coming over here on the 24th and powering everything back on, the server may actually be down for some time. I'll try to put together an email list with all the members on it some time between now and then so we still have a communication channel.

Anyone else read Penny-Arcade via their RSS feed? For the last few weeks every time I try to get to it I just get a parse error back, and as such I haven't been able to load it into my RSS reader.

PlayOn data collection
Here's a PlayOn article on character gender in WoW. Ho, hum...
However, we get a peek at their data collection strategy. Turns out they have their own mod and it appears they have 'data collection characters' that roam about one or more servers.
For some reason, I just thought they had a deal with Blizzard and got their data directly from them... This means that data analysis of the quality/quantity PlayOn do is more imminently at hand than I had thought. I just have to get off my ass and write mod that will collect the data that I want.
Wait. What data do I want?

1.9 Patch Notes
Reportedly confirmed valid by Caydiem, tho perhaps not complete. I haven't seen any actual blue text myself, but everything seems to be in line w/ what we heard at Blizzcon. Us shammys are actually getting a new spell. Happy Day!!

Essence of Fire - For Sale
I needed Mar to make me a Cloak of Fire, plus put a Fire Resist enchant on it. I was hedging my bets in shopping for Essence of Fire, but to my surprise all my bids went through and now I have 4 more than I need. I paid 9g each for them. If anyone wants, drop me an in-game mail.

How I might redesign the Logitech G15
In response to some comments at the end of Pimp My Keybo.

I forgot to change the silly blue, but of course that would have to go, too. There are only two "multimedia" [snear!] buttons on a keyboard I give a rat's ass about: volume and mute. They're on the right above the keypad.
On my keyboard, that little LCD would be extremely legible, and fully programable so anyone else could develop a little app to controll it. The real G15 has a hinged LCD so you can adjust it for maximum readability. If the screen were very high quality, this would be unnecessary as it would be readable from any angle. I'm thinking B&W OLED would do the trick. There would be about 10 - 15 degrees of tilt built right into the unit, but hinging would be unnecessary.
I permitted the M1, M2 and M3 buttons to stay, as the ability to shift the programable keys might actually be useful. My keyboard would also be very thin, but have a very solid bottom so it didn't flex and would feel like a quality piece of hardware. Hmm... custom weighting to each key like the Das Keyboard might also be slick. Wireless model also available, RF of course.
I tried to figure out a way to incorporate frickin' lasers, but no ideas yet.

Limited Play Time For A Few Weeks
Hey all. I've got a Japanese language ability exam (日本語能力試験二級) coming up in early December, and about now is the time I should put my studies into overdrive. I'll likely not be playing much other than the Sunday MC runs, and perhaps hitting Ony on Fridays.

WoW Story & Lore
If you haven't played Warcraft III, or if you have but it's been a long time, I highly recommend playing through it again. In the context of WoW, the storyline really comes together. It turns out Blizzard isn't just building these games on some vague concept, but an intricately planned universe. I had never finished WCIII: The Frozen Throne expansion, so I picked up from there. It explains the rise and development of the Blood Elves and their alliances, the Draeni, the Outlands, Illidan, how the Night Elves came to the Outlands, etc. etc. You even get a glimpse of the titan who was responsible for unleashing the burning legion on the universe. It explains it so well, in fact, that I may go back and re-play WCIII non-expansion after I finish the expansion.
WCIII ends with the Battle of Mount Hyjal, the very same battle Blizz is going to recreate for us in the WoW expansion. The Frozen Throne expansion takes us right up to the point in time where WoW begins.
When playing WCIII and the expansion in campaign mode, each load screen includes a map of the area you're in, and an explanation of the storyline. The maps and story are dead-on true to the places in WoW. My favorite example is the undead areas. Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest, Undercity (although at that time simply refered to as the ruins of the old human capital city,) Dalaran, Plaguelands, Lordaemere Lake... they're all there and exactly where you know them to be from WoW.
If storyline playes a part in your enjoyment of WoW, going back and playing through WCIII will bring you both breadth and depth. Well worth the time - I give it two thumbs up. =D

Ony Pwnage
The Pwnage of Ragnaros
First defeat Majordomo. He's the final boss before Ragnaros, and he's got eight (yes 8!) buddies. Four of them are priests, and four are high DPS melee mobs. You kill all of them, then Domo submits. Basically, he pussies out and yells, "Impossible! Stay your attack mortals... I submit! I submit!" He then drops a treasure chest full of loots.

Next Domo heads over to Rag's room. He'll wait there for two hours before he despawns and goes back to his original location with his 8 buddies again. If you don't make the two hour timer, you have to defeat him again with no chance for loots. To spawn Rag, you talk to "friendly" Domo, who tells you you're about to have your ass whooped in ways you didn't know were possible.

Rag spawns, and boy is he pissed. First, he's pissed that all his minion-bosses haven't taken care of you. Second, he's pissed that you are after the secrets of the flame. Third, he's pissed that Domo brought you to him.

Rag demands an explanation from Domo for the intrusion.

Rag finds Domo's explanation lacking, and one-shots the poor bastard.

The Fabled valiantly fights back against Rag.
Rag shows us the meaning of "pwnt," and flosses his teeth with the strings on my cod piece.

Warden
I dunno if any of you have heard of/been following the discussion around the process that WoW runs to actively scan your system for cheats.
Parallel to this: Sony's Music CD Rootkit, which auto-installs itself as soon as the autoplay is triggered by one of their protected music CDs. A rootkit basically alters the Windows kernel, allowing certain programs to cloak their presence from the operating system. They are pretty much immune to standard virus and spyware scanners, and are active even in safe mode.
How are these related? A group successfully managed to use Sony's DRM rootkit to cloak the presence of a cheat program from Warden. It's kind of like getting a flu to fight off a cold.

Alkhwarizmi:
First off thanks for getting me started in the Wailling caverns last night, I eventually got a group of 5 together after you abandoned me for MC and we had a blast. However we did not have time to 100% compleate any of our quests and we need to go back in. In other words I want to go back in either next tuesday or on the weekend and want to know if you'd like to help me & Dexterfoo do it. Also, I am posting the following link for my own reference so I don't get lost again: http://sancus.off.net/wc.jpg
P.S. Dexter if you're reading this we still need to finish off those RFC quests too. we could probably do them ourselves now with all that loot I got last night.

BlizzCon Pix
At long last, my BlizzCon site is done! Thanks for the patience, all. As previously reported I had an internet connection on Thursday night, and that was the last I saw of one until I returned home on Sunday. I got straight to work on the pictures, and this is the result. There are a lot of captions to read, and hopefully you'll find something new that you didn't know in there. On the other hand, I'm sure I've forgotten 80% of what I heard, so put up questions and it'll jog my memory.
At first I wasn't very interested, but the Warcraft Lore discussion panel turned out to be the most fun and informative of them all. Chris, the guy who is the "god" of sorts of the Warcraft Universe, is a really cool guy and a font of knowledge. (Of course he is, it's his world!)
Off the top of my head, cool announcements were:
-Mages are going to get invisibility back (it was pulled in beta) in the expansion. It will be one of the top-end talants.
-Ahn'Qiraj in Sillithus is coming in patch 1.9 (expansion not required) and will require the effort of the entire server to open. Alk, here's your persistent world changes in action! Blizz talked a little about their desire to do more of this, but also talked at-length about why it's so very difficult.
-Fully linked auction houses in every major city in 1.9!
-The expansion will not just be the opening of closed off areas in Azeroth, it will be the opening of a whole new planet! That plantet is called Outlands and is where the Warcraft III expansion, The Frozen Throne took place. Looking far into the future, Blizzard plans to take expand WoW to many new planets!
-In Outland, you can buy flying mounts, but they will only work in Outland. A flying mount will be required to access some zones that will not otherwise be accessible.
-Shard bags are in the works for Warlocks.
-A keyring is in the works to hold all your dungeon keys.
-We'll soon be seeing chance-to-proc-on-damage items for casters.
-The devs confirm: Paladins are "Easy Mode."
If you haven't seen the expansion trailer yet, it explains far more than I can. Check it out.

WSG and WoW webcomics
SO I'm thinking about going into War Song Gulch this Saturday and wanted to know if any of you have tips or want to join me in the lowbie bracket.
Also, I found a WoW webcomic here on blogger: http://play-wow.blogspot.com/2005/10/vol-4-shepherds-episode-2.html
It's pretty funny. Do you guys know of any other good ones?

Contributing to the group
Hey I was wanting to make a healer charcter that can really help out the group, but my studies have shown that clothies die real fast in PVP. Do we have any heal focused shamans in the clan? Do you guys do battlegrounds often? I might make a shammie instead of a priest as they are much more likely to survive long enough to get a few more heals out.

If I were going to Blizzcon...
(hint, hint)
First, I'd blog the whole thing (posting on specific booths seen and thoughts on the demos, etc) and I'd be sure to go to as many events (panels, tournaments, keynote speeches, etc.) as possible.
Second, I'd try to catch these events:
Friday:
Saturday:
you'll be castrated if you don't go that's an obvious one.
Did I mention the blogging? Yeah, I'd definitely be blogging the whole time I was there. I would imagine I could produce a dozen or so posts, at least.

How Do We Know They Love Us?
Some may wonder how the Old Gods and their minions can love us. Do they not kill us? Do they not cause pain and suffering to all? How could beings so bent on malevolence know love in their hearts? From a Decoded Twilight Text sent to me by Ortell.
There is a simple answer to this quesiton. So simple, it needs not be uttered.
Faith. Faith is the wellspring from which the joy of servitude showers us. Faith will keep us warm on the coldest Silithus nights. Faith will keep us in our Lords' good graces when the Ending Days arrive.
Faith will save us.

Farming
Neato article about WoW farming... Here's something that I caught in the article.
(BTW, I don't remember who was talking 'bout it (Jek?), but I've heard complaints that prices are going down. Now, we might be able to blame farmers for that!)
According to a commonly held opinion, farmers contribute to in-game inflation, letting their insatiable appetite for gold drive prices up as they demand higher and higher payment for their merchandise. As far as I can tell, the opposite is true.Nobody really believes that increasing the supply of items for sell would increase the price of items in general, do they? Do THEY?!!? :-)

Level Cap
Psst, buddy. Wanna buy a watch?
*flashes open trench coat*
Oh yah, and word on the street is, the level cap will be raised to 70 for the expansion. But you just keep that to yourself, now.

Addons
I've abandoned cosmos, but I still use a whole mess of addons. My newest one is AF_Tooltip Mini. It binds the tooltip to the mouse, and is really great in PvP. Since leaving Cosmos, I've had to do a little more work to keep adons updated, but on the flip side far fewer of them break when we get a patch. The best way I've found to keep track of what's new is to create an account (free) over at Curse Gaming. Once this is done, you can keep your own list of favorite addons (look for the Add This Addon To My Favorites link,) and it will highlight new versions at the top of the list.
Mods I Use:
Perl Classic Interface (Updated and improved over the original abandoned project.)
myReloadUI (Reloads the UI. Simple!)
AF_Tooltip Mini (My newest mod. Love it!)
Sea (Library necessary for a couple of the other mods to work)
MarsQuestLevel (Adds the numeric quest level to the quest, and nothing else. Simple!)
MarsMailHelper (Auto-fills the last player name you mailed to, and nothing else. Simple!)
CT_RaidAssist (Not just convenient, a must have for any raid.)
CastOptions (Allows me to hold the ALT key to self-cast)
KarlGustav's Gryphons Remover (Removes the gryphon art from the toolbar, and nothing else. Simple!)
Atlas (Maps for instances.)
Gatherer (Tracks where I find maraj-- erm, oregano. yah.)
Reagent Info (Tracks what professions and recipes mats are used for. Newest version not yet on the curse-gaming site. Read user comments to find author's site with latest version.)
TotemTimers (Warns me when a totem is about to expire. Critical in raids when my FR tot must always be up. Convenient all other times.)
DPSCount (Very small window tracks my dps. Averaged over the whole fight.)
CooldownCount (Counts down seconds before an ability is useable again. Latest version on author's site. read comments for link.)
LootLink (This is how folks link items in chat that they don't have. check comments for link to latest version.)
QuickMountEquip (Puts on my carrot when I mount up, and takes it off when I dismount. Some folks report trouble w/ 1.8, but mine is working fine.)
Auctioneer (Tracks prices in the AH. Works out of the box, but it's up to you to scan the AH to populate it with data. Better than Allakhazam, because the prices are specific to your AH on your server, but takes a little more work. Check comments for links to latest version.)
TargetDistance (An abandoned project that no longer works. If anyone knows another mod that will do the same thing, I'd love to know about it.)
MapCoord (Shows my player and pointer coordinates below the map)

New AB term...
Nobu (verb)- To intermittently attack a peripheral resource node controlled by the enemy in order to require garrison of defensive players at that node. "You often see rogues Nobing in Arathi Basin," "Hey Calhoun, Nobu the Stable," or "Damn Tat, come back and help me defend the LM... There's a goddamn Druid sneaking around Nobing it." The word is a contraction of the name of a world war II Japanese pilot, Nobuo Fujita, who ran bombing raids on Oregon in order to require the US armed forces to produce heavier defenses of the Pacific sea board, thus distracting those forces from offensive operations further west.

Priest Quest
Not sure if you saw this priests, but there was a class specific quest added for you in 1.7. The trinket and ring might be nice items.

Mar's first MC run
Okay, so it was only 1 hour, 1 boss, 1 wipe, and a lot of fun.... here are some pics, see if you can figure out what the heck is going on ^.^
This was about 10 min after i got in, we saw this dude's fro.
More imporantly, WTF is going on w/ my screen!
I see Jesse, Jim, Bill, Lisa, Lorri, and all my other wonderful Friends....
My first 37+ group
*drums please*
Left big... current target is... MT1.. its my job to keep him alive, I was glad tatariuchi was there to help me, I had forgoten to make the healer chat visable, and missed the assignment.
Thanks Tat!
But with a little help from the Old farts in the balcony, and lots of help from Cakeeater (my aid w/ healing)
We kept him alive, even when we both had under 8% mana. Go spi/ Mana/time gear.
Weee~ btw, of the 2 mini's we didn't lose our tank ^.^ although, the other parties did a great job of picking up aggro and re tanking him.
I'm so glad i'm not in pick up raids anymore...
For those of you new to TOC.... MC is one of the tougher areas in the game... (MC = Molten Core, a 40 man raid area)
Anywho, night!

It's dangerous for tax preparers to play this game.
Ok so as I side job I do taxes, and lately I've been taking my continuing education classes on the weekends to keep my license, so I've got money on the brain. My charcter has been mining copper like crazy and selling it for a bit on the AH, but last night I found out I can but tin for 10S and smelt it with the copper I find and sell it for ~ 90S!! Man, I haven't left Orgrimmar since! I keep logging in at random times to see if i can get any more cheap bars of tin for sale, then seeing when bronze is in demand, it's great! I swear I need to make an alt. and just leave it next to the AH this is too much fun! I almost have 2G and I'm only level 13! (I think that's a lot, is it?) Man I wish I was this good at making money in the real world.

Newbie porking in Durotar
Hi to all those guys I heard last night when I logged on as Hidoi. I spent my first while running in circles trying desperatly to figure out how to respond to you guys so I never said anything back to most of you, and I wanted to do that now. Once I got my bearings and a friend logged on to show me around, I spent the rest of my time acting out what seemed to be a terrible Lord of the Flies remake, killing piggies, slitting their throats, making them squeal... and then I even threw in my first wipe, just for the heck of it. I was one hit away from killing the creep and thought it was great fun, but I don't know what my Shaman friend thought about having a scorpid 4 levels higher than him check his prostate with a pincer. Anyhoo, I'm Hidoi, I'm the new guy, good to hear from some of you last night and I'll see you this weekend!

Guenter is still broken
3 days now, and Guenter is still stuck in Searing Gorge. I keep getting punted back and forth between the GMs and tech support. I probably won't be able to go to Blackrock on any character until a patch fixes this.
Can't Play Tonight
Sorry folks, I'm committed to attending Yuji's* "last supper" before he permanently returns to Japan tomorrow. I'll think of y'all while downing sake and sushi. かんぱい!

Oh yah, and if Will remembers he's invited, this message should apply to him as well.

Character Transfers
Different from what you're used to seeing.
WoWForumLink
WoWForumLink
Character-Transfer Service
Another feature of the Web site we'll be implementing is fee-based character transfers. This is a feature that's been very frequently requested and one which we want to provide for players as soon as we can. We'll offer character transfers from one realm to another, as well as allow players to move characters from one account to another. While we want to offer this service as a convenience, we also want to prevent its use for exploitive reasons, so there will be a time restriction to limit the frequency that a character can be moved.

Am wanting to have a introdutionary fun time
Haupty is of a warrior of the Troll persuasion. He is want to have the happy tanking time. Is good for the bezerker stance still controll aggro, or will the groups not give of their inviting?
Non Engrish translation:
Hey there, I'm a friend of Todd's who's just joining up, yoroshiku, ne? I'm going to be making a character in the next few days, I was going to make a troll warrior and try to stay out of defensive stance, controlling aggro by generating more rage and using mocking blow, sunder armor, pummel, ect. more often. If I were to do that would I be welcome in groups? Or would you guys not want to group with me because you prefer the use a shield and get hit in the face type warriors? I'd hate to level him and find out no body likes me.

1.7 Patch is Here!
I'm hosting it privately for a few days to give y'all access to a faster download. It will be removed after a few days time.
Link
A few patch notes that I found interesting:
"You can now no longer avoid Onyxia's confuse effect by jumping or
moving erratically."
Does this mean moving forward/backward will no longer keep you from running through the lava?
"The Effects of Flasks will now persist through death."
Woot! Now Alchemy is usefull in PvP!
"Using /random will now send the text to your party or raid wherever
they are instead of the local area around the player that used
/random."
Finally!
"If you omit the rank of a spell in /cast or CastSpellByName(), it
will use the highest rank of the spell which you know."
Nice. Simplifies macro writing.
"A new inn has been added to the Grom'gol Base Camp in Stranglethorn
Vale at the base of the zeppelin tower."
Finally!
"The debuff limit has been increased to 16 (from 8 ). In addition, the
client will now display all 16 debuffs."
"When an attribute increasing effect (e.g. Arcane Intellect) is
refreshed on a target, it will no longer reset the target's health or
mana and then increase the total."
"Pets now switch to a new target if possible when their current target
is polymorphed."
Excellent.
"Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin will now be level-banded as follows:
20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60."
Been waiting for this for a while.
"Losers of Warsong Gulch are now given a "Ribbon of Sacrifice" which
they may turn in to Captain Shatterspear or Sentinel Farsong for a
faction reward."
Even loosers get prizes.
" In the Battlegrounds, you will now automatically be resurrected by
Spirit Healers unless you choose to decline."

this tuesday
we have been asked by wifi to assist w/ the warlords command quest which i think takes us to LBRS... joe and i will help him.. he has asked me if gavin or scott, or anyone else wanted to join us.
if you know what the quests are call i'd like to know so i can pick up any pre quests needed.
(also something i thought was cool, wifi sent thumb a second piece in the set, that he found in scholo)

Thanks Thumbs, Jekyll, & Fabled!
Thumbs tanked for an otherwise all Fabled group yesterday just far enough into Scholo for Jekyll and I to kill Kirtonos. Big payoffs for only 30 minutes worth of work all around. Jekyll and I both got our Major Mana Potion and Water to Air Transmute recipies, and Thumbs got Boots of Valor off of Kirtonos! Grats Thumbs!
PvP in WSG
Last night I joined about 6 other Fabled for PvP in WSG, and what a great time it was! Folks were organized, and that makes such a huge difference. I played about 20 rounds, and we only lost one.
I think I'm coming to understand why Alliance hates Shaman. It's for a lot of the same reasons we hate Palladins, only we can put out a little dps, too. "Just.. just fucking DIE damnit!!!"
Teehee.
There were a number of cases where they'd have 4 ganged up on me, and I could hold out long enough for our flag runner to get a safe lead on them. They really shouldn't be letting themselves get so distracted.

In about 2 weeks or so, 2 of my old friends should be comming to wow... (horde) of course... I'm trying to bring them into Hyjal. So, If you see some new faces on (engrish or TOC) give them a hearty hello

If You Can't Beat Them Fair...
Tired of going to the AH to sell your crafting items, trying desperately to save for your epic mount, only to discover said item is selling below your cost? No worries! Just buy up all those items from the AH to create an artificial supply shortage, and resell them at the price you think is fair!
Just remember what Snoop said...

Weird...
...there's only one warlock in the top 20 pvp standings. I'm shocked. Shocked!
Umm, search for Tittlywink, btw. I want him back in our guild! :-)
UPDATE: Tat and Mar are on the list, too! Rock. Tat (927th), how do you feel about your brother (574th) kicking your ass in the standings?

Add-On Variable Data and the 1.7 patch
Stolen from the WoW forums and reposted here because those forum articles have a way of disappearing...
Users of AddOns with saved settings should know the following important information for how to upgrade to 1.7 without losing their settings.
The information presented below has already been posted in other threads; however, the information in those threads is buried among a bunch of other AddOn developer gobblty-!@!$. It is re-presented here in the hopes that AddOn *users* read it before they lose all their settings.
The following procedure is recommended for upgrading to 1.7:
1. Download the 1.7 WoW client patch.
2. Run the patcher.
3. (Optional) If you already have any newer versions of your AddOns available, go ahead and install them. If not, just go to step 4.
4. Run WoW.
5. When WoW tells you some of your AddOns are out of date and asks you if you'd like to load them anyway, say "Load Anyway".
6. Enable ALL of the AddOns whose variables you want to migrate to 1.7.
7. Make sure that version checking is disabled.
8. Load up your character.
9. Log out.
You should do all the above steps right away. Do not load up a character without your AddOns being enabled. If you do the above 9 steps, that should cause your saved variables to be migrated from the old 1.6 format to the new 1.7 format without losing data. After that, you can safely load up your character without all of your AddOns enabled until you get a chance to download the newer versions of the AddOns.
If you have more than one account, you need to do the above steps for at least one character on each account. You do not have to do it more than once for each account: all other characters info on the same account will be migrated at the same time.
Developers: please correct me if I've gotten anything wrong.
Users: please spread the word to all your friends so they don't have to come here next week asking where all their settings went (and so they don't get mad at you for not warning them about it when they find out all *your* settings are fine :-).
(This post has been edited to capture additional information from below. Thanks to those posters.)

We need to find a day
I would like to start doing instance runs once a week again. I've discussed it w/ joe and believe we should pick a week day. Due to peoples schedules, lets come up with one day, or 2 days one as a primary and the second as an alt day.
I am available Monday - Thursday evenings. Usually starting at 8pm
Joe? Mon-Thurs... Okay?
Gavin, Tuesday/Thursday?
Scott?
Will? (new schedule?)
DM east should be doable... Or ST (for people not yet 58+)
The main goal of this is to better our selves and our equipment with in the guild.
I would like to see our tank, have more than one blue item soon ^.^
This will be a why to get equip for our alts and such.
Please post ideas/ times/ corrections /instances and such.

Evil has revealed itself
So, you may or you may not be aware of my recent computer problems. While playing WoW, intermittent UI resets became disconnects became hard locks. My wireless internet would die (even though Gavin's laptop, also on wireless, continued to work), kicking me from the game. I messed with the network and video drivers to no avail... Actually, at one point updating drivers broke the wifi connection completely.
"Time for a Windows wipe," I told myself. What a pain in the ass... So I stalled.
Recently, I began to hear noises. Computer fan noises. Is my power supply going out? No. I opened the case (its one of those fancy Dell flip top deals... thanks Jay) and found the noise coming from my video card. Its fan (video cards have fans!) is going out. Also, my wireless card was right next to the sun-hot video card. Thinking the wifi card was getting hot, I moved it down a few slots. I haven't had problems with the network connection since.
However, the crashes have continued. Turning down (way down) the video settings in the game seem to delay or eliminate the crashes, though. So, running the video card hard seems to overheat it and kill my computer.
So the question is: Can you replace a video card fan? Its an ATI radeon 9800 XT.

Server issues, and busy
Hi folks. Sorry I haven't been on these past few days. One of the Active Directory domains on campus (thankfully not mine!!) had a catastrophic failure, and I've been helping that domain's team to bring it back up. I was at work until 11pm on Thursday, 11pm again on Friday, and I'm writing this from the server room today.
Also, if you weren't able to connect to any of my sites a day or so ago, there was a DNS configuration problem that I didn't catch until Wednesday evening.

Introducing... Al Kindi
Tsuno wasn't hacking it as the guild druid, so I thought I better step in... I mean... The guild will be much more well rounded with another druid...

Al Kindi was THE Arab philosopher for many centuries and is widely considered to be the greatest philospher of that descendence. He was actively anti-alchemist (he didn't think you could "transmute" metels). While Al Khwarizmi developed much of algebra, Al Kindi made significant contributions to mathematics. He also made significant contributions to medicine (especially in determining the correct dosage of medicines). A polymath, he's considered to be one of history's greatest naturalists and thus in WoW (at least in Hyjal) he's a druid.
Anyway, if any of you folks have teenage characters, Tat and I were going to run WC or RFC on Sunday night. Wanna come?

Raiding *Together*???
[Edit: Updated to account for another possible day. Please update your responses to consider this change.]
Hey all!
Alk and I have cooked up a cooky idea. Let's all get together for a raid! I mean, really together! As in, in-the-same-room together! There are one of two ways we could work this.
As for setting a date/time, Alk works Thurs - Sat and can't get out of it. He suggested a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. I've got class on Monday and Wednesday, which leaves Tuesday or Sunday. Please reply with a list of the Tuesdays & Sundays that you could attend through the end of August. To simplify, please do not list days that you can't attend, or that you're not sure about.
Also, be thinking about what you'd like to raid. It seems doing a 10-man raid is the most likely candidate. Instances that fit the bill include Dire Maul (I'd say North preferably,) Scholo, Stratholm, Black Rock Depths, and Lower Black Rock Spire. Remember that you will not be able to complete quests for any of these instances while raiding -- this would be primarily for loots and for the fun of getting together.
So, in your response please indicate:

- Meet at my place, everyone bring their gear.
- Meet at the school where the lab has WoW preinstalled.

Xile... The Fabled... Rant.. (details added)
In CTF he wound up on the aliances' side. He picked up their flag, and would just sit in their base. It was impossible for us to retrieve it. they would steal our flag, he would drop it, as soon as the brought our's back. He was also bitching earler about how if you wern't 60 you shouldn't be doing pvp. Its been a loooong time since i was in and around fabled... but i imagine they don't want shit like that being preformed w/ their name.
.... nuff said, I feel like i should report him.

What is the point of our guild?
[Edited the part in bold to be more specific about inaccesible content.]
Since Jay brought it up, what indeed is the point of this guild?
A) Is it to have a chat channel where we can all communicate with each other? Nope. We've already got /engrish.
B) Is it to have a nifty board? Nope. This system was in place before the guild, and there's no reason it couldn't continue without the guild.
C) Is it to gain access to high-end content? Absolutely not. I was under no delusions about this when I created the guild charter. There's no way we'll ever have enough members to do a ToC only 40 main raid, unless one of you wants to take the helm and work on building a larger guild. That means inviting non-rl friends/family/aquaintances, etc. One could argue that we have just enough players to do an UBRS raid, but you have to remember that at least two of those members do not enjoy long commitments to game play (that is, instancing.)
It comes down to a handful of events. Firstly, Alk was a big motivator. He pushed hard for the creation of our own guild, because he thought it would be cool. Second, there were at least three other players who were already in Fabled, but were just too shy to talk in /gchat and go along for quests, instances, etc. Ultimately, they left Fabled and ToC was created so they would have a place to call home. I tried to make it clear to these players that they would be forefeiting end-game content if we went this route, but at the time it didn't matter. I don't know if they still feel the same or not.
Since it seems that it needs to be re-stated, if you want to see end-game 15+ player raid content, you need to find another guild.
Why don't I personally want to grow ToC? It's not the effort I would have to put in, it's more about what I would loose. I believe that growing ToC would mean I have to dedicate all of my game time to this guild. I have very real gaming relationships with many players in The Fabled. These are people I've been playing WoW with for almost a year now, and I don't want to give up on those relationships. It's that simple. If the Fabled was full of assholes, you can bet your arse I'd leave in a heartbeat and focus on this guild. If any of you want to grow ToC, I offer you the helm.
To be entirely honest, as I approach 60 I'm even starting to wish my mage were in Fabled. I still want and prefer to party with the people on this board, and I agree that a set gaming night would be helpful. On the other hand, this small group is not always able to support instancing, and it's nice to be with folks I can play with during ToC down times. Also, until everyone is 57+, we can't all participate in the same content together.
Alk, I really think that Fabled is about as casual as it can possibly get and still have access to raid content. Fabled does not have attendance requirements, and I hear that's rare for a guild that does as much raiding as we do. Nobody should be relying on myself, Cal, or Alk to get them into MC runs with Fabled. Many people put many hours into the game to make raids happen, sometimes without getting even a single piece of loot for a very long time. The question of who gets what loot is one that Fabled and other guilds take very seriously to be sure everyone who puts in the effort gets fair treatment. Loots going to non-guild participants so completely complicates the situation that most guilds won't invite non-guildies, and if they do only on the condition that that player understand they won't have access to loots. I understand the problem, and without a better system I support that decision.
Comments welcomed. :-)

First rule of suicide missions...
... if you're going to wipe the party so you can grab an item (like, I don't know, the documents for the Warchief quest), make sure you have room in your inventory. Time is of the essance when 4 folks are aggro'ing 20+ mobs away from you.
I've been working on the first step of the Onxyia's key quest chain for a couple days now (a week). The quest is called Warchief's Command and it begins an interesting plot line. I suppose you wouldn't expect less for quests that eventually lead you to Onyxia the Big Ass Dragon. Anyway, I've ran lower Black Rock Spire everyday since Sunday trying to collect some documents and kill the appropriate bosses. In many of those runs, Cynapse has been on the team. A brillant priest, I enjoy playing with him.
Tonight, Cynapse was in my party and I finally got all the bosses and the documents. Yeah! That was hour two... Phew. Just in time to help Maraco in Mauradon.
"Hey guys, all I need is the documents," Cynapse says interupting my whisper to Mar, "can you help me get 'em."
We learned earlier that the documents respawn at a random Boss's lair. By the way, you may read that they only spawn once per instance. Anyway...
"Sure. Let's see where they've respawned at..." And we began to run back from Boss Wyrm's den to Boss Omokk. It turns out that there's in one of the cracks in the wall there's a hole where you can drop down into Omokk's lair. This crack in the wall is very close to Wyrm's which is is the furthest boss from the zone in portal. Finding shortcuts in LBRS is a happy thing.
"Hey," chimes in our spunky, yet competent pick-up tank, Ulysses, "I'm getting tired. Can we do a suicide run?"
"Sure."
"Yeah, kamikaze.... Sounds like fun."
"Ok, I'll take the VW and aggro the first bunch... Uly, you take the second bunch."
"Cool."
"Ok. Go!"
We rush in like the bad ending of a bad Western. Guns ablaze. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (and I guess their sidekick). The VW lasts about 5 seconds. I use sacrifice last 5 seconds more. Cynapse gets to the documents as Uly goes down. He should have plenty of time. I count... "one one hundred, two one hundred, three one hundred, four one..." He's down.
Silence.
More Silence.
"Cyn? Did you get it?"
Silence.
"Cyn?"
"Inventory Full!" he says. "I can't fucking believe this." And he logs.
"No, way." I think to myself. "This is stupid," Uly writes, "we have to get him those documents."
3 hours later (all the mobs respawned and the documents relocated(?!)) Cyn got his documents.
Postscript: the WC quest turn-in leveled Cyn up to 60. Yeah! He also got all the components for the UBRS key and he got a drop he wanted. For him, a good day...

New Chat Channel!
Hi All! Well Wifi has been grinding on many people's nerves quite a bit lately, so we've chosen a new chat channel. We're abandoning "ToC" for "Engrish" so c'mon over! The question of his guild membership will also have to be addressed in the near future. Also, don't forget about your ignore list for anyone who you find offensive or annoying. Just type "/ignore playername" and you'll never hear from them again! :) The one catch to the ignore list is that, like your friends list, you have to maintain a seperate one for each character.

Yet another reason why the druid was a bad class to recommend to my wife...

Gettin' Lucky at the AH
A few tips and tricks.
- Look at the bid price, not just the buyout (b/o) price. Some sellers will fail to increase the starting bid price to something reasonable and you can get a real steal on these items. Just place a bid and cross your fingers nobody else finds it. It works often enough to be worth the time!
- Use wow.allakhazam.com to look up the item's AH pricing history. Look for items that typically sell for much more. Buy them out and resell them! I like to use Allakhazam's "most common price" index.
- Check the AH between 2am and 3am. Many auctions are getting close to expiring at this time. Combined with tip #1, you can score a lot of deals this way.
- If you are constantly looking for high-end mats, set a limit on what you'll pay. I'll only pay less than 21 gold for Arcane Crystal, for example.
- If you can get mats at a good price, buy more than you need. Prices fluctuate on these kinds of goods, so having extra will hold you over when the price is high.
- Sometimes the price really spikes on higher end mats. In these cases, you can take your extra mats to the AH and resell them with no modification at a good profit, and without blowing a cooldown!
- If you regularly sell a particular kind of mat, check the other auctions for the same item before you put it up. If there are too many auctions going, just skip it. I won't auction anything if there is more than 1 page of listings.
- Check the pricing of those mats as well. If the price is too low, hold on to it and sell it later.
- When pricing your own mats, don't undercut everyone else as that damages your market. I like to go for a price that's a few steps above the cheapest deals, but still a fair price. The cheapest deals will go so fast, your item will be all that is left and will still sell.
- If you know your item will sell easily and the AH is doing high volumes (say from 7pm - 9pm pst) put your item up for only 2 hours and save some coin on the listing fee.
- Only use the 24 hour listing for items where your target market is small. Good examples of this are blue/purple level 50 - 60 weapons, armor, etc. Consider not setting a b/o price on these items.
- Make sure your auction will expire during high-traffic AH hours. Start 8 hour auctions at noon, and 2 hour auctions at 6pm.

Chance to hit, crit, and miss
The original posts for this info are long gone, but they were blue text on the WoW forums. Enoy:
Some of the language in the above article can be confusing. When they say "chance to hit" remember that what they actually mean is "chance to get a normal hit" (as opposed to your chance to crit.)
Hi all, this is motive, the QA lead tester for WoW and fellow rogue =). I have some information on how Rogue crit is calculated that will hopefully clear up some of this confusion. And a follow-up to that:
The way WoW calculates crit rate is over ALL attacks. Crit rate is not based on hits only. In other words, if you have a 5% crit rate, that 5% chance includes misses.
All crit rate adjusting abilities, items, and talents add the flat % to the base % crit rate. So if I have a 5% base crit rate and then use an item or talent that increases that crit rate (let's use Improved Backstab talent for example - +30% crit), my new crit with backstab is 35%.
Regarding how defense decreases the rate of critical strikes, each point of defense that a target has over the attacker, the attacker loses 0.04% chance to crit. So, for example, if a level 60 Rogue is attacking a level 60 Warrior who has 25 defense, the rogue's crit rate will be decreased by 1%.
I hope that helps!

Q u o t e:
Wait, motive can you verify some theoretical numbers for me? (assuming ideal distributions)
1) 1000 swings with a 50% chance to hit and a 50% chance to crit (against an equal level unarmored/no defense enemy) would result in
a) 500 crits, 500 misses (chance of regular hit = to hit - crit)
or
b) 500 crits, 250 hits, 250 misses (chance of regular hit calculated independently after crit roll)
or
c) 250 crits, 250 hits, 500 misses (chance of crit calculated independently after to-hit roll)
Sounds like you use option A as your calc, which is cool although not particularly intuitive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Option a) is correct. But keep in mind that 50% hit AND 50% crit is not a possibility since in your example the % chance to miss stays the same. The way this works is that when your chance to crit increases, your chance to hit is consumed by that increase. So if I initially have a 25% chance to miss and a 50% chance to crit, then I have a 25% chance to hit. If I increase my crit chance to 55%, then my chance to hit (not crit) becomes 20%.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q u o t e:
As for attack skill vs defense skill, am I correct to assume that the formula is crit adjustment = (ATTACK SKILL - DEFENSE SKILL) * 0.04?
So if rogue with 325 dagger skill and 50% crit attacks an enemy with 300 defense, the rogue's effective crit is 51%, and attacking a warrior with 425 defense the effective crit is 46%?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, this is correct, applying the formula to a rogue with 325 dagger skill vs. a target with 300 defense increases the rogues crit chance to 51%.
(325 - 300)*0.04 = +1%
Your second assumption is also correct, applying the formula to attacking a warrior that has 425 defense yields a -5% to crit rate, dropping this rogues crit chance vs. the warrior to 46%.
(325 - 425)*0.04 = -4%
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q u o t e:
As for the original poster, Blizz you might want to reverify the (ATTACK SKILL - DEFENSE SKILL)*0.04 formula, as if that suddenly become (0 - DEFENSE SKILL) * 0.04 while tweaking defense, it would explain the ~12% drop in crit percentage.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't make any assumptions about the original poster's data because the weapon skill and target defense ratings were not posted. As many people have stated above also though, probability distribution is not always perfect and there is still a chance that once can be "unlucky". It's not impossible to toss tails 50 times in a row, it's not impossible to only crit 40% of the time when the chance to do so is 50%.
Some of the language in the above article can be confusing. When they say "chance to hit" remember that what they actually mean is "chance to get a normal hit" (as opposed to your chance to crit.)
Attack Power, Strength, and Agi
Just for you, Joe :)
Attack power increases your base DPS by one for every 14 attack power.
Each one point of strength increases your melee attack power by 2 for all classes except Rogues and Hunters. In the case of these two, attack power increases by one for every one point of strength, and also one for every one point of agility. Basically strength and agility both contribute to attack power, but at half the rate that strength alone does for all other classes.
In the case of Hunters & Rogues, +7 strength and +7 agi = +14 attack power = +1 to base dps.
For all other classes, +7 strength = +14 attack power = +1 to base dps.
Also, remember that agi has the added bonus of increasing your armor class*, increasing your chance to dodge an attack**, and of course increasing your chance to crit***. :)
Finally, a druid's feral forms' attack powers are both calculated on strength only. Even though the feral cat is considered a pseudo-rogue, it does not use the strength/agi formula to calculate attack power. The cat feral form attack power calculation is the same as that of a Shaman (see below.) If you want to increase your dps in either of your feral forms, collect + to strength gear.
Here are the specific formulae that the game uses to calculate a character's base attack power:
Warrior/Paladin/Druid Feral Bear Form Attack Power:
Character Level*3+Strength*2-20
Rogue/Hunter Attack Power:
Character Level*2+Strength+Agility-20
Shaman/Druid Feral Cat Form Attack Power:
Character Level*2+Strength*2-20
Druid Caster Form Attack Power:
Strength*2-20
Mage/Priest/Warlock Attack Power:
Strength-10
* AC increases by 2 for every one point of agi.
** The amount increased is dependant on both class and level. For most level 60 character classes, approximately 20 points of AGI will increase your chance to dodge by approximately 1%. Rogues only require 14.5 AGI for an additional 1% dodge chance. Hunters require 26.5 AGI for an additional 1% dodge chance, but Hunters typically have a high amount of agility, as well as an Aspect spell that further increases their chance to dodge attacks.
*** Rogues require 29 AGI for an additional 1% crit chance, and Hunters require 53 AGI for an additional 1% crit chance, but both of these classes also gain attack power from agility and the items available to them typically have much higher amounts of AGI. All other classes gain 1% chance to crit for every 20 AGI.

Phat Lewts
w00t! Tonight's MC run with Fabled got me Earthfury Bracers and Earthfury Breastplate! Add that to the Earthfury Belt I had from a while back, and the three together netted me my very first Earthfury set bonus of +10 yard range to all totem buffs!
