The Blizzard splash screen

Ok since were were talking about this and more has been reveled, I just want to give us one more chance to make our bets. I think the image resembles both a protoss and arthas/lich king, but I'm thinking what it is actually going to be is a completely new game, there is some historical evidence that supports this and all the runes being from different games makes me thing that this is kinda celebrating all their old games while announcing the next thing in line. Just wanted to get it in writing with a date on it :) Feel free to make you guesses here.

Having seen the update, it now looks a lot more like a modified face of the Lich King. The eyes are now too similar. However, you can see some differences between the teaser image and the concept art on the WOTLK official site, such as the brow ridge being pointed in the middle instead of flattened, and differently shaped cheek-plate areas.

Since the symbols do appear to originate from multiple Blizzard games, I'm still holding out for a D3 announcement this weekend. They may go for a double or triple threat too, announcing that in addition to a new IP, and perhaps tentative release dates for SC2 and WotLK.

Gratz, Mike, you nailed it!
Diablo III Announced!
I had already ruled out the litch king for the brow reason, so it was either a protoss or something else. THey had already announced Starcraft III, so I thoughts it would be something else, but it seemed too odd non Diablo themed to be Diablo III to me, you got it.

..........HAH!

But now the waiting starts. Holiday '08 would be too optimistic, this could stretch until summer '09 or even holiday '09. In any case I'm really glad they had something new to show off instead of something for WotLK.

I was holding out for Diablo III: Arena. PVP only, many more classes, different gametypes like deathmatch and capture the flag, play as characters from a wide range of Blizzard properties, highly moddable. Collect runes for powerups like invincibility, fast regeneration, quint damage.

So something like super smash Blizzard?

No, looks more like he's making fun of Quake III Arena...

...which id software is transforming into a browser-based free game called Quake Live. Interesting idea, same as Instant Action, another pioneer in the realm of serious games provided via browser (they've got a Tribes clone coming, apparently).

Q3 Arena on a browser? Woah. BTW, we need to organize more guild FPS events. I loved those zombie master and HL Deathmatch nights. Yes, I was slaughtered repeatedly, but it was fun.

That's a great idea, and we have lots of options there. TF2 is still a great game (and getting better?), CS:S, HL2 Deathmatch, etc.

I don't have TFT2 :(
otherwise we'd be doing this more often.

TF2 is a fine entertainment investment. Problem is that most maps really need a minimum of 12 players to work, and we've averaged around 8 at our LAN games. We'd probably end up mobbing a public server or hosting our own, which I don't mind.

Also on the menu:
Serious Sam + sequels
UT2K4 + mods
HL2 + mods
and Left4Dead comes out in November
